Fachübersetzungen


Als freiberufliche Übersetzerin bin ich seit Jahren damit vertraut, mich schnell und zuverlässig in unterschiedlichste Fachbereiche einzuarbeiten. Diese stets neue Herausforderung ist die Grundlage dafür, dass Fachübersetzungen ihren Zweck erfüllen: Informationen verständlich und akkurat in einer Fremdsprache wiederzugeben.


Da ich selbständig tätig bin und nicht als Agentur arbeite, ist die Kontinuität Ihrer Terminologie sowie der direkte Kontakt zwischen Übersetzerin und Kunden stets gewährleistet. Gerne erstelle ich auch ein Glossar Ihrer Fachterminologie, um Übersichtlichkeit und Einheitlichkeit des Vokabulars zu erzielen. Texte aus mir neuen Fachgebieten nehme ich nur an, wenn ich eine zufriedenstellende Ausführung garantieren kann.


In den letzten Jahren habe ich auf technischem Gebiet vorwiegend Erfahrungen mit der Übersetzung von Gebrauchsanweisungen medizinischer Geräte sowie von PC-Grafikhardware gesammelt.


Werbung


In der Werbung begegnen sich Kunst und Fachkompetenz - um ein Produkt erfolgreich zu vermarkten, muss der Präsentationstext ansprechend und überzeugend sein. Für mich als Übersetzerin bedeutet dies, mich ebenso wie für eine Fachübersetzung zunächst umfassend über das Produkt zu informieren, darüber hinaus jedoch die Inhalte so wiederzugeben, dass sie auf dem Markt der Zielsprache werbewirksam sind.


Dieser doppelte Anspruch von Fachwissen und kreativem Sprachgebrauch, und besonders das Ertüfteln von griffigen Slogans, gehören für mich zu den reizvollsten Aspekten meiner Arbeit.


Literatur und Film


Im Gebiet der literarischen Übersetzung schließlich liegt der Schwerpunkt auf dem kreativen, intuitiven Umgang mit der Sprache. Nicht nur Inhalte, sondern auch feinste Ausdrucksnuancen müssen erkannt und einfühlsam umgesetzt werden. Dabei stellt die Literatur häufig eine Ausnahme vom "Chamäleon-Prinzip" dar - hier kann es gerade darauf ankommen, Eigenheiten der Ausgangssprache in die Übersetzung einzubeziehen.


Ich bin bereits seit meiner Jugend sowohl in der englischen als auch der deutschen Sprache beheimatet und liebe es, Gedanken und Bilder in sprechende Worte zu fassen. Literarische Übersetzungen übernehme ich nur in der Sprachrichtung Englisch - Deutsch.


Darüber hinaus übernehme ich auch Untertitelungen von Filmen, Dokus etc. für DVD. Die hierfür notwendige Technik der sprachlichen Verdichtung bereitet mir außergewöhnlich viel Spaß und recht wenig Mühe.

Technical translations


Several years' experience as a freelance translator have been an excellent training in the ability to familiarise myself quickly and reliably with new and very diverse subject areas. Every time this is a challenge, and every time it is the basic prerequisite for technical translations which serve their purpose: that is, conveying information clearly and accurately in a foreign language.


Since I work independently as a freelancer, not an agency, the homogeneity of your technical terminology and direct contact between translator and client is ensured. As another option, I can provide a glossary of technical terms after translation so as to optimise consistency and clarity of the vocabulary used. I only accept texts on subjects new to me if I can guarantee your complete satisfaction with my translation.


Over the last years, my main area of technical specialisation has been medical instruments, their descriptions and corresponding user manuals, as well as visual computing hardware.


Advertising / Marketing


Advertising is where art and facts shake hands - successfully bringing a product to market can only be achieved if the textual presentation is as appealing and convincing as the product itself. For me as a translator, this means collecting information on the product just like for a technical translation, but then reproducing these contents in such a manner as to have commercial appeal in the target society.


For me personally, this double challenge of technical information and the creative use of language, especially juggling with words to come up with catchy slogans, is one of the most rewarding aspects of my work.


Literature and subtitling


Finally, in the area of literary translation, the main focus lies on creative, intuitive use of a language. Not only content, but slightest nuances of expression need to be perceived and carefully conveyed. Literature is often an exception to the "chameleon principle" - in some cases, it can be essential to preserve elements of language usage in the source text and let them show through the translation.


Ever since my childhood, I have felt at home in the English and German language and I love expressing thoughts and images through words which talk for themselves. However, as a German native speaker, I only accept literary translation jobs from English to German.


I am also experienced in subtitling movies, documentaries, etc. for DVD. The necessary technique of condensing meaning into few words is one which I enjoy and which comes quite easily to me.
